Fall

Hi Guys,

We've had long extended hot and humid weather, but we really can't complain. It has been as bad as it has been here, it's "NOTHING" compared to weather the rest of the country is having, that's for sure?! As of this writing (2nd week of August) water levels on the lakes and rivers are normal. We've had rain showers every couple of days that are keeping those levels up. I don't know if you remember or not,but right after I sent out last fall update, we had to close. Lake Champlain and all the other waters around were so low, the state closed a lot of the ramps! We also had a lot of damage to our boats and motors, so, reluctantly, we had to close for the rest of the season?! In our 48 years of being in business, it is the very first time we ever had to close!! but, so far, it is looking good for this fall ahead.

Right now we are in the 'DOG DAYS' of summer, in most cases, if you want to catch fish, you have to go deep!! Right now we are trolling for Trout and Salmon and we've been doing very well. Surprisingly we are doing very well on the Landlocked Salmon too! As most of you know, by reading our updates, we've been waiting for a come-back on our Salmon fishing, which has been on the downslide for almost 10 years now!!! back in the 90's and early 2000's we were averaging 20-30 Salmon a day. Landlocked and smallmouths are definitely my favorite fish because they really fight and jump when hooked!!! At this time of year we also deep water jig for Smallmouths and Lake Trout. Right now I would like to take this time to explain and/or apologize to all of the guys who inquired about coming to fish with us this summer but decided not to come. The problem is that you really can't put too many guys in a boat if you are going to fish for Bass and Pike, as you would if you were fishing for Trout and Salmon, because the Bass and pike fishing is all casting and too many guys casting in one boat, all casting lures is very dangerous!!. We normally only put 3 people in one boat for Bass and Pike..We can put more people in a boat when fishing for Trout and Salmon because you are trolling and one guy is up at a time. So, if you are bringing more than 3 guys to Bass and Pike fish you would have to hire 2 guides and 2 boats, "SAFETY FIRST" I hope that explains things better.

Fall Fishing

In a few weeks from now as the temperatures drop and the waters cool, the bigger fish start moving into the shallows following the bait. This is when our fall fishing starts. Believe it or not "Pike" are the first fish to start feeding for the winter ahead, Not that long ago, primetime fall fishing was early September thru October, now, it's late September thru mid November. Summers and Winters are much longer now than they used to be..... As I mentioned many times before, Fall is THE time to catch the biggest fish of the year in almost all species. More 10 pound Pike, 5 Pound plus Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, 10 pound plus Lake Trout, and 5 pound plus Landlocked Salmon are caught in the fall more than any other time of the year. What is great to me is that all these fish are caught on light tackle and mostly "casting"!! The Prime time in the fall where you "CAN" catch all these fish in one day , is from mid-October thru mid-November. Here are the photos from recent fall.

Long Pond

Our lake, Long Pond, has been absolutely great this year. Even in this brutal heat, guys were averaging 20 or more Bass a day! If you didn't know, when you stay with us at the Lodge you get to fish Long Pond on your own with our row boats. All our boats are registered so you can bring your own motors if you like. You can also bring your own boat..

Thank you

Before I close this update, Jane and I would like to thank all of you who called, emailed, and sent get well cards to us. Our health issues are getting better, so thanks so much for your concern!

Well guys, I think that is it for now. Like always, hope to see you soon.

Pete
