ACGS - Quality Fishing, with Quality People

September

Hi Guys,

veryone good, Safe and Healthy? I hope you are. We have been fine here, with very little problems. This wearing masks, disinfecting, and social distancing is working very well. It has almost become second nature to us, just like wearing seat belts have become, so simple?! I really don`t see why it is such a problem elsewhere?!

Summer is always our slowest time of the year in both fishing success and and the amount of fishermen coming. But in spite of all time record heat, our guys did very well as you can see by these photos from this past month. Most of the largemouth photos you see here, are from our lake, Long Pond, right behind our lodge! Also, as you can see, we are catching a lot of Walleye on Champlain now, which is a wonderful surprise!! I think within a year or two, guys will be able to come here and actually target these fish instead of catching them by accident. It has been a long time since their populations have been up, probably close to 40 years now! So that is really great news!! But I must say, on the other hand, our Landlocked Salmon fisheries has been just the opposite, a steady decline in the past 40 years?! New York State`s landlocked salmon restoration program here, in my opinion, has been a complete "Failure" ?! Take my advice, no matter what you might read, it is a waste of time to come up to exclusively fish for them. It is now a fish you might catch by accident now? Ours use to be the best fishery for them in the "Country"?! I am very sad about that, cause Landlocks were once, at one time, our most sought after fish, with almost 100% success?!

OUR FALL FISHING SEASON

Right now we are in the "dog days" of summer, as I mentioned, record heat?! We had over 20 days in the 90s when the average is about "3" ?! It is just Crazy?!! In "recent " years, The fall cool down has been late Sept/early Oct. As the waters cool, bass and pike follow the bait into the shallows and we start the fall season using topwater lures, shallow crankbait sand jerkbaits, inline spinners and spinnerbaits, and Senko type baits. As we get into mid Oct the fish move deeper and we switch over to Jigs, ned rigs, dropshot, deep suspended jerk baits and crankbaits and we basically use them thru the rest of the season, which is about Mid Nov. Our trout, salmon, come near the surface and shore lines from about late Oct thru mid Nov and we cast and troll for them with spinners, spoons, Rapala type lures, and flies. In recent years, right around Thanksgiving, the water temps dropped very quickly and we were ice fishing with in a couple of weeks, no gradual change at all?!! Fall is definitely the "very best" time of the year to catch the biggest fish of the year in almost all species, but it is also the "Windest"!
