I hope you are all still safe and healthy. What a crazy world,Huh?!
Even though we lost half our spring to the Pandemic, we did manage to get in some great fishing, as you can see by the photos from the last update and these photos from the past couple of weeks. Check out the "Walleye", they are coming back!!
At present, all hotels, motels, and the Canadian border are still closed?!! Our area depends on Canadian business much more then from the US cause we are right on the border. With the recent spike in the virus in the South and Western US, I don`t think they are going to open for a while?! They would be crazy to do that!!
LONG POND
Our Lake, Long Pond, has had some really nice catches too, as you can see by these photos. The Summer is here and fishing on the pond, like everywhere else, is best in the early morning and late evening with a lot of top water action.
Summer Fishing
With the rise in water temps, bass and pike are headed off to deep water and will soon be spreading out to the deep water weed beds, rock piles, and reefs. Now thru Sept we will be fishing them pretty deep using jigs, drop shot, deep crank baits, and blade baits. Since the spawning is over, and as the summer progresses, the fish will start to feed once again and put on a lot of weight. In the summer months we catch some really nice fish, but since they are so spread out, you just don`t catch the quantity as you do in the Spring and Fall.
The very best fishing in the summer here is for Lake Trout. We not only troll for them, but we also "Spot Lock" our trolling motors over deep water humps and rock piles, and "HOVER" over the fish, vertical jigging for them!! And it is a Blast, and many of those Lakers are going over 10 lbs!!! In the past couple of years we have been offering bass and pike fishing, and trout and salmon fishing in the same day. So, if you don`t mind what species is biting, you should do very well fishing here in the summer.
Looking to the fall
The next best time for action and size fish is Oct thru mid Nov. It is the time for the largest fish in almost all species!! For those of you who couldn`t make it up this spring cause of the "virus", and if you have time, you might want to try then? I understand that a lot of fishermen are also hunters too, but you just might want to fit in a couple of days with us this fall?!
