Pete's Pointer 11/2010 - Chemical  Warmers
I recently learned that chemical hand warmers made and sold under the names Heat Factory, Hot Hands2 and many other brand names have a shelf life.  On the corner of the outer packaging is an expiration date stamped right on the plastic bag material.  You should look for this expiration date when purchasing any brand of warmers to make sure that the warmers are not out of date or soon will be.  I know many hunters and ice fishermen use these chemical warmers in their mittens and boots.  A word of caution as these warmers can reach temperatures of over 100 degrees and could burn you in prolonged direct contact.  Please dispose of the packaging material and the warmers themselves in a proper and cautious manner when you have finished using them.
