There are many important tools we use to be successful anglers.  None is more important than the type of fishing line we spool on our reels.  Today’s anglers have a mind-boggling array of fishing lines available to them.  There are dozens of line manufacturers out there and they keep coming up with new products each year.

I’m always aware what type of line my clients use.  I see some lines that perform well and others that are just a nightmare to use.  There are some fishing lines that perform well at the start of the day but by noon the line is kinking and casting like a slinky.  I find nothing more frustrating for a client, on a fishing trip, than to have constant problems with a fishing line.  When purchasing fishing line there are many characteristics that we should look for in a quality line.  The line should be limp, smooth casting, have superior resistance to abrasion, limited stretch, maximum knot and line strength.

We all have favorite lines that we use that have performed well year after year.  This “Pointer” is based on many years of personal experience and observations.  I personally don’t think you can beat Bass Pro Shops Excel Monofilament line for spinning and baitcaster reels.  This line comes in three colors, clear, green and my favorite clear blue.  This line is manufactured in the USA under strict quality control standards and I believe Stren makes it for Bass Pro Shops.  The clear blue line is highly visible above the water and clear underwater.  The ability to see the line in all types of daylight lighting conditions makes it very valuable when worm or Senko fishing.

There are two size spools of line available, jumbo spools and 1-lb spools.

Considering all the other benefits this line offers it is also very economical to purchase.  You can purchase, as an example, 8-pound line, 1500 yards, for $8.99 for jumbo spools or 6,030 yards for $22.99 in 1-lb spools.  The line is available in 4-30 pound test.

Because this line is so economical to purchase you can change your line more frequently during the course of the fishing season.  I carry a jumbo spool of 6 and 10 pound test in my fishing bag at all times for anyone who might want to try this line when you come to the lodge to fish.  Remember, when making out your next Bass Pro Shops order give this line a try, you won’t be disappointed.
