March

Hi Guys,

Just Want You To Know, And To Show You, Our Ice Fishing Photos From These Past Couple Of Weeks. As You Probably Noticed, The Last Update It Was Pretty 'lame", Because Of The Lack Of Ice, And Not Much To Show You. But We Now Have Plenty Of Ice. These Photos Are Just From The Past Couple Of Weeks. The Long Term Forecast For The Next Couple Of Weeks, Is For Colder Weather, Which Means We Should Have Good Ice Thru, At Least, Mid March. Oh, And Another Good Thing, After Almost A Month Of Almost Darkness, The "Sun" Has Finally Come Out!!

Eclipse

As I Mentioned In The Last Newsletter The Upcoming Eclipse Will Be Right Over Us. If Anyone Would Like To Come To The Lodge And Witness This Event We Will Be Open For It. The Cost Would Be Our Regular "Lodge And Meals Package Deal. We Are Not Going To Take Advantage And Jack The Prices Up. We Still Have A Few Spots Available. If You Are Interested, Just Call Me At 518-963-7451.

Looking Ahead To Early Spring

For Many Years Out Inland Stream Fishing For Browns, Brook And Rainbow Trout Was Second To None. Then About 10 Years Ago It Really Took A Downturn. Besides Having Some Natural Spawning Trout, With Very Little Pressure We Also Have A Good Amount Of Hold Over Trout. You Can Usually Tell These Fish Immediately , By The Vibrant Colors. As You Might Know Recently Stock Trout Are Virtually "Colorless". But, In The Spring Of 2022 On Our First Day Out We Caught A Beautiful Colored Brown Trout About 15 Inches!!! We Said Wow, What A Beautiful Hold Over! But Then We Kept Catching Beautiful Colored Browns One Right After The Other??!! We Know That There Can't Be That Many Native Or Hold Overs In One Spot. Apparently Nys Dec Started Stocking A New Type Of Brown Or Maybe A Change In Food At The Hatcheries?? Anyway It Wasn't A One Time Deal. Last Year We Caught Even More!! So I Would Say We Are Back To Some "Great" Stream Trout Fishing Once Again. Within A 50 Mile Radius Of Our Lodge, We Have 5 Trout Rivers Including The Ausable, Bouquet,. Saranac, Chazy And Chateaugay Rivers. , And Many Smaller Tributaries And Ponds, Loaded With Trout. This Type Of Fishing Is Usually Best In The Early Spring We Start Around Mid April . What Is Really Nice, No Matter What Time You Come, No "Arm To Arm Fishing Here, Which Is So Nice! We Do Have Guided Trips To Take You For Trout, But You Can Also Do It Without One. Just For The Cost Of Lodging And Meals Package We Can Mark Out The Hot Spots On A Map For You.

Salmon

Our Landlocked Salmon Fishing Has Still Been Slow, But It Has Picked Up Slightly. Due To The Global Warming I Have Heard That The Dec Is Finally Stocking The Lakes And Not Just The Rivers With Salmon Now, So There Is A Much Better Survival Rate.

Early Smallmouth

Just Around The Middle Of April, The Big Female Smallmouths Start Coming In To The Shallows. These Are Some Of The Biggest Fish Of The Year! The Smaller Males Don`T Show Up Until A Couple Of Weeks Later. It Is Catch And Release Season Until June. Great Photo Fish, As You See These Photos From Last Spring

Well Guys, I Hope I See You Up Here For Some Ice Fishing And/Or Some Early Trout And Bass Fishing. It Will Be Here Soon. Have A Good One!!

Pete
