Long Pond Fishing

This is Bernie Oritz, from Yonkers, NY with a nice
largemouth caught in Long Pond. Bernie caught some real quality fish
while fishing the pond but had no one with him to take his picture.
I took this picture of Bernie from the dock behind our lodge. |
The panoramic picture at
the top of our home page is a picture of some of the shoreline that surrounds
Long Pond. It is certainly a picturesque surrounding with the mountains and
hills offering a view down on the 400 acres of the pond. The view from our
dining room window looks right at the pond and offers our clients a relaxing
perspective of a small piece of the ever changing Adirondacks. The seasons
change right before our eyes from the ice of winter to the beautiful fall
colors. It is hard to believe we have completed the month of July and are
moving into August. I have posted the 2008 winter sportsmen’s show schedule on
our website and I hope you will look it over and make plans to attend one of
these great shows.
The
fishing in the pond has been excellent and I’m always troubled when some clients
have a difficult time locating fish. I have often thought of offering guide
service on the pond but wouldn’t really have the time or know what to charge.
We have some clients who have been fishing the pond for years that always seem
to do well year after year. We recently developed a map of the pond that
reflects the weedbeds and shoreline. We did this in response to some people
coming to fish the pond for the first time and not enjoying the great fishing
the pond has to offer. We have received some very positive feedback about the
map from new clients and how much it helped them to locate quality fish. Please
ask for a copy of the map when you come to the lodge even if you are a fishing
pro or a rookie. It can only help you to locate fish and increase your
opportunity to catch them. We do encourage “Catch and Release” in the pond to
help keep the quality of fishing at a high level.
The
month of August can be a tough month for fishing in Long Pond. The constant
heat slowly raises the water temperature of the pond and makes fishing
difficult. The fish head for the deeper and thicker weedbeds hoping to locate
cooler water and water with more oxygen in it. We are closed for the month of
August because the lodge is not air conditioned and the fishing is not up to our
high standards. The cooler weather of September certainly helps with the
fishing and the lodge is much more comfortable to stay at. Give some thought to
booking your fall trip to fish Long Pond well in advance because the weekends
really fill up quickly once summer is over.
Something to think about*
*If you used another guide service other than Adirondack-Champlain Guide Service
you probably paid too much. We offer quality fishing; qualified guides and our
prices are the best around. There are no strangers here only friends who have
not met.
